2014 China Transport sector still in depression

Looking back in 2013,the performance of the transport sector at a lower level. For the shipping industry, it has seen downturn in the market and the earnings had little improvement compared with 2012, especially the rate continued to decline at the first half. Entering into 2014, the analysts expected that the industry is still in depression with no signs for recovery.

Shipping market is still hovering at a lower level and it is difficult to turnaround in a short term.

According to statistics, the market is in significant supply/demand imbalance state. Slowdown in the vessel supply growth and the increasing demand for iron ore shipment, BDI see a temporary recovery from the end of 2013 to the beginning of 2014.

Up to July 4, the average China container freight index(CCFI) is 1101.37, slightly up by 0.93% than the same period last year. Although high concentration is in global container market and Top 20 has occupied 70% global capacity, it is difficult for container giants to rise price together.

The rate in the tanker market is in downturn trends. Up to July 16, the average BDTI was 773.93, rising by 21.51% than the same period last year and the average BCTI was 569.92, declining by 11.63% than the same period 2013.
