The International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) has come up with new proposals for overcoming the "serious implementation problems" faced by the Ballast Water Management Convention.

It has called on the Maritime Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to pass a resolution at its meeting in October to modify implementation of the convention and address industry concerns about the viability of the approval process for ballast water treatment systems.
