Shanghai port’s container volumes rise 7.5% in October

The container port of Shanghai has handled higher box volumes in October compared to a year ago, according to figures from Shanghai International Port (Group) Co (SIPG).

Last month, the world’s busiest port moved 3.02m teu, an increase of 7.5% compared to 2.81m teu recorded in the same month of 2013, SIPG figures showed.

Volumes in October inched up compared to 3.01m teu registered in September this year.

In the first 10 months of 2014, the Chinese port of Shanghai posted a total throughput of 29.47m teu, up 5.4% from 27.97m teu recorded in the previous corresponding period.
