2016-05-27

The 1994-built reefer vessel Frio Antwerp caught fire in the afternoon hours of May 25 while it was unloading its cargo of 200 tons of frozen fish in the Spanish port of Marin, Pontevedra, local media reported.

The fire reportedly originated from a forklift which was located in the third cargo hold aboard the vessel.

Pontevedra’s fire department personnel were sent to deal with the incident, and the fire was put out around 4 p.m.

Relevant authorities will now conduct an investigation into the incident, however, initial reports show that the fire did not affect the vessel’s structure nor its cargo.

The incident did not cause any injuries to the crewmembers, who were allowed to return aboard their vessel after necessary ventilating operations were conducted.

Owned by the Greek company Nautilus Shipping and Trading S.A, the 8,032 dwt Frio Antwerp is still moored in Pontevedra, according to AIS data from Marine Traffic.
