GAC has opened a new operation in Namibia, Africa in response to growing demand from its oil and gas customers and rising cargo trade between the country and neighbouring South Africa as well as other African nations.

GAC, provider of shipping, logistics and marine services, formed GAC Shipping (Namibia), which will provide a portfolio of ship agency services for vessels calling ath Namibia’s ports, from its central office close to Walvis Bay port.

The service package includes bunker fuel supplies, offshore support, dry-docking, project logistics and husbandry, as well as lay-up and warm stacking support and for all types of ships.

“GAC Namibia is also supported by a dynamic team in South Africa, with vast knowledge of the local industry and the necessary experience to represent our clients and take care of all their requirements in Namibia,” said managing director Eric Barnard.

For the past 15 years, GAC has worked with a sub-agent in Namibia but with its growing oil and gas expertise, lay-up services newly introduced in Namibia and South Africa, and growing cargo trades between the country and other African countries, it was decided that the time was right to expand.

GAC said the establishment of the Namibia operation represents the latest stage in the group’s expansion in Africa. The group is represented by a network of its own offices or agents in nearly 40 other countries throughout the African continent.
