Wuhan has launched port optimisation plans along Yangtze river and Han river to upgrade its port structure and reduce port and ship emission in the region.

Currently, there are 103 terminals along the core area of Yangtze river and Han river in Wuhan. The province plans to close 61% of the terminals by 20 April this year, including 76 terminals at Yangtze river and 27 terminals at Han river.

Wuhan will also scrap and upgrade 189 barges gradually, accounting for 63.5% of the total barges operated in the region.

In an effort to protect the environment, Wuhan will launch the actions to reduce emissions for Yangtze river and its branches from 1 March.

Wuhan is located in the middle stretch of Yangtze river, and is one of the key rail-water combined transport hubs designated by the Chinese Ministry of Transport.
