Chongqing Port has announced a plan to convert a breakbulk terminal in its Lanjiatuo port area into a grain terminal.

The port said the move is to meet the surging grain transshippment demand from the city’s Degan Industrial Park.

Under the plan, the port will convert one 3,000 dwt breakbulk berth into a 5,000 dwt grain berth with a designed annual handling capacity of 1.55m tones. The construction will be completed within a year, and total investment on the project is RMB39.87m ($5.6m).

Chongqing is currently developing a grain processing base in its Jiangjin District where the Degan Industrial Park is located.
