The UAE’s Khor Fakkan Port, located on the eastern coast, is set to welcome the largest single-batch shipment of finished vehicles in its history, with a car carrier transporting 6,068 BYD electric vehicles (EVs) arriving at the port, as reported by the Emirates News Agency (WAM) on August 9. This voyage also sets a new single-shipment export record for the departure port—Xiaomo International Logistics Port in Shenzhen, China—since it began operations, marking the official inauguration of a direct roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) shipping route from Xiaomo to the UAE.

The vessel carrying out this transport, the “BYD CHANGSHA,” sailed from Shenzhen’s Xiaomo International Logistics Port on August 4. Since its commissioning at the end of 2021, Xiaomo Port has opened 12 Ro-Ro routes covering seven major global regions.

The shipment does not consist of a single model. According to the Shenzhen Municipal Transport Bureau, the 6,068 exported vehicles include 3,725 “Shenshan-made” Fangchengbao Ti 7 SUVs—marking the first mass export of this model, which is produced at BYD’s Shenshan factory located adjacent to Xiaomo Port.

For the UAE market, this large-scale arrival carries clear supply-signaling significance. Khor Fakkan Port is operated by the Sharjah Ports, Customs, and Free Zones Authority, which has been actively pursuing such Ro-Ro cargo business. In July this year, the authority announced plans to boost the port’s throughput capacity to 5 million TEUs through new shipping routes, with existing berths already exceeding 17 meters in depth—suitable for accommodating large Ro-Ro vessels.

At the market level, BYD is already one of the best-selling Chinese EV brands in the UAE, with its local product portfolio and autonomous driving promotion plans well integrated into the local market. Industry observers note that this concentrated arrival of over 6,000 EVs will further enrich supply; meanwhile, recent used-car transaction data indicate that Chinese brands and electric models are exerting downward pressure on local resale prices, with the competitive landscape continuing to evolve.
