The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) announced last Thursday (30 July) that it has awarded liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering licences to eight companies, authorising them to supply marine LNG fuel in the Port of Singapore. The new licences will take effect on 1 September 2026 and remain valid until 31 August 2031.

The newly licensed companies are:

- Aramco Trading Singapore

- Equatorial Marine Fuel Management Services

- ExxonMobil Asia Pacific

- PetroChina International (Singapore) Pte. Ltd.

- Shell Eastern Trading

- Sinopec Fuel Oil Sales (Singapore) Pte. Ltd.

- TotalEnergies Gas & Power Asia – Sembcorp Fuels (Singapore) joint venture

- Sembcorp Fuels

Prior to this new round of licensing, Singapore had three LNG bunker suppliers: FuelLNG, Pavilion Gas, and TotalEnergies Marine Fuels.

The MPA had called for new licence applications in January 2026 and disclosed in April that it had received 14 proposals aimed at expanding the port’s LNG bunkering capacity. The authority stated that its evaluation criteria covered supply capability, commercial proposals, operational experience, and safety standards, while also taking into account applicants’ ability to control methane slip emissions and support lower‑emission fuels such as liquefied biomethane and e‑methane.

In addition, the MPA will upgrade the existing technical reference for LNG bunkering (TR56) to a Singapore Standard in August this year, further strengthening safety and operational requirements.

In terms of data, Singapore’s LNG fuel sales in June stood at 54,970 tonnes, a year‑on‑year decrease of 0.7% and a sharp month‑on‑month decline of 21.8%.
