Ren Yuanlin Sells Off 12, Orders 6 Newbuilds in Product Tanker Bet
According to multiple shipbuilding industry sources cited by TradeWinds, YZJ Maritime Development has returned to private shipyard Jiangsu Haifeng Shipbuilding to place orders for four 50,000-dwt MR product tankers and two 115,000-dwt LR2 product tankers, with deliveries scheduled between 2028 and 2029. Following this latest addition, the company's cumulative tanker newbuilding orders at Jiangsu Haifeng have reached 18 vessels, having already placed orders for four MRs and four LR2s in the first half of this year, with delivery slots spanning from late 2027 to the first quarter of 2029.

Industry sources analyse that YZJ Maritime's bet on product tankers is primarily driven by the expectation that global fleet renewal will stimulate newbuilding demand, with the relatively early delivery slots being a key differentiator. Currently, most domestic shipyards have their berth positions for similar vessel types booked through late 2029 or even 2030, making Jiangsu Haifeng's availability of 2028–2029 slots particularly attractive to investors.
On the asset disposal front, YZJ Maritime has sold four 40,000-dwt bulker newbuilds under construction at Qianyao Heavy Industry, with the buyer believed to be a European shipping company. In February 2026, YZJ Maritime signed a 2+2 shipbuilding contract with Qianyao Heavy Industry for 40,000-dwt bulkers, scheduled for delivery from April 2027 to May 2028, at a unit price of $29 million.
To date, YZJ Maritime has sold a total of 12 newbuildings within nine months. Its earlier resale agreement for four MR product tanker newbuilds, concluded in November 2025, has now entered the delivery phase. The first vessel was officially handed over on July 30, 2026, the second is scheduled for November of the same year, and the remaining two are planned for delivery during 2027, with the buyer being Monaco-based tanker giant Scorpio Tankers.
In April 2026, YZJ Maritime secured another resale order for four MR product tankers of 49,800 dwt, to be delivered in batches between 2027 and 2028, with the buyer reportedly being Danish shipowner Torm.
