World's First 10,000-Vehicle-Class Car Carrier Equipped with PV System Delivered
On July 21, Guangzhou Shipyard International Co., Ltd. (GSI), a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), jointly with China Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd., held an online remote signing ceremony to deliver the 10,800-CEU LNG dual-fuel powered car carrier "GLOVIS NOVA" to Korea Ocean Business Corporation (KOBC). This is the third 10,800-CEU LNG dual-fuel car carrier delivered by GSI and, more notably, the world's first 10,000-vehicle-class car carrier equipped with a photovoltaic power generation system. The online delivery method further reflects KOBC's longstanding trust in CSSC's shipbuilding capabilities and GSI's construction quality.

Designed and developed by CSSC's Shanghai Merchant Ship Design and Research Institute, the vessel has an overall length of 230 meters, a molded breadth of 40 meters, a molded depth of 15.6 meters, a design draft of 9.1 meters, a maximum draft of 10.5 meters, and a service speed of 19 knots. It is classed by DNV and the Korean Register (KR) and is certified for unrestricted worldwide navigation. The vessel adopts fuel oil and natural gas dual-fuel power, equipped with a shaft generator and a 200 kW peak-power photovoltaic grid-connected system. Based on an estimated daily sunlight duration of 5.5 to 7.0 hours, the photovoltaic system can generate approximately 1,000 kWh of electricity per day, demonstrating excellent energy-saving and emission-reduction performance. In terms of emissions, it meets the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Tier III standards, and the onboard natural gas storage capacity is sufficient for the entire voyage.

The ship features 14 vehicle decks, of which 9 are fixed decks and 5 are hoistable decks. A stern door and a side door are arranged on the starboard side, enabling the carriage of sedans, vans, trailers carrying freight containers, heavy trucks, and other vehicle types. In addition to vehicles, it can also carry certain packaged dangerous goods under the IMDG Code. The vessel is equipped with 16 sets of hydraulic-powered movable ramps and 2 layers of hydraulic hoistable decks, greatly enhancing vehicle loading and unloading efficiency and operational stability, and fully accommodating the diverse operational needs of global ocean-going ro-ro trade with strong adaptability and practicality. During the construction process, the project team vigorously implemented lean management and optimized production processes. Before undocking, the team completed the commissioning of ro-ro equipment below Deck 8, the anti-skid sand application on ramps below Deck 5, and the commissioning of the gas system. Mooring trials for the main engine were completed 15 days after undocking, the inclining test was finished in 34 days, and the installation, commissioning, and grid connection of the photovoltaic system were completed before sea trials. The vessel was delivered over 200 days ahead of the contract schedule, making it the shortest construction period among the 10,000-vehicle-class LNG dual-fuel car carriers built and delivered by GSI to date, providing valuable experience for the subsequent construction of the same series.
