Li Yiping: China’s economy prosper brings benefit to break bulk market

2013-03-22

Recently in the 2nd Annual Breakbulk China Conference and Exhibition held on 12th to 15th March, the Deputy General Director of Chipolbrok Li Yiping took an interview from CNSS, talking about the current domestic break bulk market.

How do you think of current domestic break bulk shipping market?

Personally I believe that the overall trend in this sector is very positive, as domestic production export is growing, including equipment, infrastructure projects production and automobiles. Especially, power stations and wind power generation equipment attract more and more attention. China’s transformation from importing to exporting these goods is a delightful sign for break bulk shipping market.

What are the target markets of break bulk cargo export now?

The main markets we are shipping to are the developing countries and new emerging economies area. But it is not limited to Southeast Asia, which is the hot area over the world, and the trade is also operated with countries of the Persian Gulf, West Africa and South America. Recently China’s export targets are getting closer to our transport destinations, which means that China is now entering a relative advanced market. For example, previously our ships traveled to America with cargo, but China did not trade a lot with US, but now we can see the booming of trade with Mexico, Venezuela and Caribbean Sea. In addition, many full sets of equipment are shipped to Belarus and Latvia. We believe that trade between China and the developed countries in Europe will increase soon.

And how about the import situation?

China’s import of break bulk cargo is now focusing on the high-technical equipment. An interesting example is that, 20 years ago when we built the metro in Shanghai, we had to import the full sets of the trains. 3 years after that we could import parts of the equipment and assembled in China. Lately factories of metro are established in China, and now we are changing to export these kinds of equipment. As a shipping enterprise, we are very glad to see that domestic economy growth brings benefit for shipping industry.
