Mongolia to use Chinese ports

2014-08-26

China has decided to allow landlocked Mongolia to use the northern and northeastern Chinese seaports that are open to foreign vessels.

China has been Mongolia's largest trading partner and largest source of foreign investment over the past decade. Two-way trade stood at $324M in 2002, but soared to nearly $6Bn in 2013.

In June 2013, China and Mongolia inked an agreement to allow Mongolia to rent 10 hectares of land at the Dunzian Port in Tianjin city, which was expected to create a unique opportunity for Mongolia to expand the seaborne trade and conduct the trade operations faster and in more economically viable way.
