Shipping giants piles up in shipping e-commerce

After Nov.11, COSCO announce to cooperate with Alibaba creating cross-border e-commerce service. CSCL in July with Alibaba built cross-border e-commerce logistics platform, which made waves in depressed shipping market.

The market expected that Alibaba will subvert traditional container shipping models.

Shipping E-commerce becomes hotspot.

There are three kinds of shipping E-commerce models in China:

First, shipowners are e-commerce traders. Shipping companies developed e-commerce system to serve itselt.

Second, the cargo operator built the third party e-commerce platform such as JC trans. The insiders said that some detailed implementation was based on offline service and earning models were unclear.

The cooperation of Alibaba and CSCL force the third E-commerce model, one-stop shipping logistics service platform.

The analyst said that that the ideal shipping e-commerce model shall a platform built by the third party, who can offer comprehensive solutions such as top-top and shipping problems.

Zhuang Wei, China Liaison Officer, BIMCO and General Manager, BIMCO Shanghai Centre said that BIMCO is prepared for electronization innovation, offering an electronic communication platform. In this platform, shipping operational management information or more can be found, including holidays of destination port, possible sanction warnings from trade partner market. Other services also can be offered such as ballast water, fuel oil, and piracy, model agreement of shipping industry, daily report, and technology standard, etc.

There are two existing problems the shipping E-commerce is facing: first, professional works are strongly influenced by traditional thoughts, which do not conform to practical needs of E-commerce platform and constant changing of internet environment. Second, the platform cannot control offline suppliers, whose offering the price was not consistent with the transaction price. The non-standardness of products, product diversity and price complexity in container industry and market price fluctuations caused the E-commerce platform cannot timely issue products and freight rate.
