On Jan.4, Shanghai International Shipping Institute released Q4 China Shipping Prosperity IndexReport of 2014.

The report said that China Shipping Prosperity Composite Index reached 100.71 points in Q4, 2014, down by 3.06 points from Q3.China Shipping Confidence Index was 91.45 points, 4.13 points under Q3 level.

China Shipping Transport further step into downward trend

In Q4 2014, the prosperity index of shipping transport companies registered 99.23 points, a drop of 0.87 points. The operation condition got little improvement, further worsening the confidence index of shipping transport companies, which reached 66.89 points in Q4. The prosperity indexes of large, medium-sized and small shipping transport companies were 98.85 points, 100.53 points and 98.57 points.

China’s Dry Bulk Shipping Enterprises

The profits of dry bulk shipping enterprises were seriously squeezed. In Q4 2014, the prosperity index of dry bulk shipping enterprises registered 85.83 points after a drop of 5.76 points from Q3. The confidence index of dry bulk shipping enterprises was 38.33 points, deep into serious depression area. The prosperity index of rate and profit condition respectively was 61.94 points and 87.78 points, down by 56.92 points and 39.61 points from Q3.

Container Shipping Enterprises maintained its uptrend. In Q4 2014, the prosperity index of container shipping enterprises was 110.36 points. The confidence index of container shipping enterprises was 93.75 points.

The prospect of Chinese shipping industry is gloomy and the recovery expected by shipping experts did not realize in 2014. What will happen in shipping market of 2015? The Institute has investigated more that 240 shipping enterprises.

The investigation showed that 6.06% of shipping transport enterprises said the industry started to release recovery signs and shipping industry will get improvement in 2015; 39.39% said that the recent feel-good conditions had uncertainties and the market trends in 2015 was still unobvious; 54.55% said the imbalance between supply and demand was not solve and the market was still in depression.

China shipping prosperity investigation showed that Q1 2015, China Shipping Prosperity Index was expected to reach 98.29 points, down by 2.42 points from Q4 2014. China Shipping Confidence Index was expected to reach 83.26 points with a drop of 8.19 points.
