Foreign conveyance can enter and exit Damaiyu Port, Taizhou freely from now on. This port is the first category 1 county port in Zhejiang Province, and also the 7th category 1 port in Zhejiang.

The Ministry of Transport issued an announcement on December 29, 2011, stating that, with the approval of the State Council, Damaiyu Port in Taizhou, Zhejiang is open to foreign registered ships officially.

Damaiyu Port was approved as a category 2 port in 1993. However, the category 2 ports cannot accept foreign ships directly or conduct direct operation at the terminals. For the last decade, the local government has applied to upgrade Damaiyu Port to a category 1 port for many times. However, due to the complex procedures for port opening and the precondition of the agreement by the military, the application was not approved.

After the unremitting efforts, the military finally agreed the opening of waters and lands in Damaiyu in 2005. In 2008, the State Council approved to expand the opening of Damaiyu Port to foreign ships. The port has successfully passed the provincial pre-acceptance and national official acceptance in last September.

After Damaiyu Port is opened up, foreign ship and crew members can enter and exit the port freely. The enterprises running foreign trade can make declaration at this port, which makes it more convenient to open international lines.
