2012-05-04

According to statics from Ministry of Transport, the number of ports with over 100mt throughput in 2011 has been increased to 26 from 22, 17 coastal and 9 inland-river.

Among the 26 ports, Ningbo-Zhoushan port ranked first with 694mt cargos. The Yangtze River Delta has the most, 11 of the 26 ports. Chongqing port and Beibu Bay port are also in the list.

It is noticeable that 3 of 4 new ports in the lists are inland-river ports: Taizhou Port, Chongqing Port and Jiaxing Port, which has reflected the strong development of inland-river transport. In 2011, the State Council has issued the Opinions on Speeding Up Transport in YangyzeRiverand OtherInlandRivers. During the 12th Five-year Plan, 45 billion RMB, 2.7 times of the 11th Five-year Plan, will be arranged for developing inland shipping by central government.

It is predicted that the increasing rate of throughput in Chinese port in 2012 will be about 10%, down by 12.4% than 2011.
