Statistics show Hunan's trucking growth outpaces all of central China

HUNAN'S latest official statistics show that the province's road cargo growth is the fastest among all central China provinces, though its railway cargo dropped and waterway cargo continues stagnant, Xinhua reports.

From January to July, Hunan carried 30.89 million tonnes of cargo via railway, 11.5 per cent less than in one year ago. Railway cargo turnover dropped 3.3 per cent to 59.89 billion tonnes per kilometre. In the same period in 2011, the province recorded an 11 per cent's increase in its railway cargo volume.

Meanwhile, provincial truck traffic increased 13.8 per cent to deliver 851 million tonnes. Freight turnover grew 22.5 per cent to 119.04 billion tonnes per kilometre.

On the other hand, provincial waterway cargo volume, passenger growth were substantially slower than in the first seven months of last year.

Statistics showed that Hunan's half-year cargo and passenger turnover was 6.6 percentage points higher than the national average, ranking the first among all central China provinces and the ninth in the country.

From January to July, Hunan's cargo and passenger turnover increased nine per cent to 261.1 billion tonnes per kilometre, up nine per cent year on year. Though 8.4 percentage points slower year on year, the growth was 0.6 percentage points higher than in the first half of this year.
