The rate of demolition of capesize bulkers is gaining momentum as four sent to scrap yards last week.

The latest scrap deals have taken the number of cape BC scrappings so far this year to 55.

If this momentum goes on, the figure would well surpass last year’s figure of 72.

However, capesize sector supply and demand imbalance is set to continue as RS Platou estimates 250 capesize newbuildings are set for delivery in 2012, of which 150 were already delivered by the end of August.
