Expanding Maersk Line’s promise of absolute reliability

2012-10-09

Even more of Maersk Line’s customers will have the opportunity to experience the benefits of absolute reliability.

From 21st November 2012, Maersk Line’s total transportation time promise will apply to six more routes: from Jakarta (Indonesia) or Laem Chabang (Thailand) to Bremerhaven (Germany), Rotterdam (The Netherlands) or Felixstowe (UK). (Bookings for this service will commence 8th October 2012).

Total transportation time is the time from cut-off to cargo availability: Maersk Line’s promise is that this time is always fixed. It is one of the key benefits that customers have identified when using the Daily Maersk service. In the words of one customer: “Daily Maersk can solve our storage problem. And it is unnecessary to book the concrete date, we just know which day the cargo is available.”

Or to put it another way, the total transportation time promise introduces reliability into supply chains. This can mean better inventory planning and less waste. This is borne out by users of the Daily Maersk service. In August 2012, Maersk Line surveyed 175 customers shipping on the service. 77% responded that they could see the benefits of using the service, with 59% of respondents actively utilising those benefits.

With gate-in any day of the week and two weekly cut-offs, Maersk Line are promising to transport goods on these routes in 31 days. The clock starts at cut-off and stops when goods are available at the final container yard. The promise is absolute, backed with the same monetary guarantees offered on Daily Maersk. Maersk Line will start taking bookings from 8 October 2012.

It has been a year since Maersk Line introduced Daily Maersk. Vincent Clerc, Maersk Line’s Chief Trade and Marketing Officer, tells us:

“When we launched Daily Maersk, we were trying to implement a new service standard that our customers could expect to get from us. We wondered at times during the development if we’d bitten off more than we could chew. Fortunately our hard work seems to have paid off, a year on we are achieving 98% reliability and feedback from customers is positive. So, we’ve taken everything we’ve learnt from Daily Maersk and we’ve decided to extend the Daily Maersk promise to our customers on these additional routes.”

Extending Absolute Reliability

It began with Daily Maersk, now the promise of absolute reliability is going just that little bit further.

From 21st November 2012, Maersk Line is extending its total transportation time promise to six more routes: from Jakarta (Indonesia) or Laem Chabang (Thailand) to Bremerhaven (Germany), Rotterdam (The Netherlands) or Felixstowe (UK). (Bookings for this service will commence 8th October 2012).
