Shanghai: As the downturn in domestic shipbuilding continues, more shipyards have been suffering from financial difficulties and payment arrears disputes have been frequently reported.

Several workers from Zhejiang Haifeng Shipbuilding took part in a protest activity on Wednesday asking the local government for help to get their salary payments from the shipyard.

The shipyard is said to owe salaries totaling RMB900,000 to 85 workers.

Haifeng Shipbuilding explained that one of its subcontractors failed to pay the workers, and currently the boss of the subcontractor has been kept in custody by local police
