Shanghai: The cruise homeport development in China’s financial metropolis has recently celebrated another big breakthrough with the city’s maritime department deciding to prioritise right-of-way to cruises calling at the port.

Last year, there were 247 cruise calls at Shanghai port and the number is expected to grow to 330 this year with five cruiseships making Shanghai their homeport.

In order to guarantee the punctuality of cruises, Shanghai Maritime Bureau has decided to give priorities to cruises by making commercial vessels give way to cruises when they are calling at the port.

“Many cruise itineraries are connected with flights, delays will cause trouble to passengers, people are more important in this situation,” said Huang Jianwei, an official at Shanghai Maritime Bureau.
