Coal Imports Climb up, China Coal Market Hard to Recover

2013-03-22

Coal imports in China have reached new highs, 166 million tons in 2010, 182.4 million tons in 2011 and 290 million tons in 2012.

Qinhuangdao shipping coal trading market operator Fang Guangzhi said that China is expected to import 350 million -380 million tons in 2013, monthly average beyond 30 million tons.

Vice President of Datang Electric Power Fuel Company Zhang Zhigang pointed out that the price of imported coal is always lower than domestic price, but just at a range of 30 RMB/ton-40 RMB/ton. Therefore, the upside potential is limited.

Analysts believed that the buyer's market pattern is hard to change in China recently.
