2013-04-01

For the first time in 20 years, a mainland Chinese owner is ordering in Taiwan. China’s SITC International Holdings will place an order for 2+2+4 1,800 teu boxships at Taiwan’s China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSBC). Officials from CSBC have confirmed that the contract will be signed at Taipei’s Regent Hotel on April 2. SITC’s chairman Yang Shaopeng and ceo Yang Xianxiang will be attending the signing ceremony.

The order will be the second order that a mainland owner has placed at a Taiwanese shipyard, the first one was placed by Cosco at CSBC for four boxships in 1993.

The first vessel in the order is expected to start construction in November this year.
