Remora Signs FEED Study with BG Brasil for New Generation of HiLoad Units

2013-06-27

Remora AS announced on Jun 13 that the company has been awarded a contract by BG Brasil (BG) to perform a FEED (Front End Engineering & Design) study for the next generation of HiLoad Dynamic Positioning (DP) units (HiLoad).

The design that is based on the main parameters of the first generation, the HiLoad #1, will include new features, such as increased engine power and the capability to maneuver vessels larger than Suezmax.

“The utilization of the second generation of HiLoad units will enable BG Brasil to export crude oil from Brazil with the use of conventional tankers, loading from the offshore installations”, says Kjell Ove Breivik, Managing Director of Remora.

“We see a great potential for HiLoad DP units in Brazil where cargoes destined for long-haul export continue to be on the rise.”

In 2010, Remora took delivery of the first ever HiLoad unit, a self-propelled dynamic positioning system that attaches to and keeps conventional tankers in position when loading from offshore installations. Teekay Corporation has agreed to acquire 49.9% ownership interest in Remora in 2012 as it sees great potential in combining Remora’s patents with Teekay’s customer network, access to capital and technical competence, as well as operational expertise.
