PTP Welcomes the Triple-E, ‘Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller’

On 28 July the world’s largest container vessel, ‘Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller’, called at the Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) on its maiden voyage between Far East Asia and Europe. The newly built Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller has phased into Maersk Line’s AE10 Service and exchanged over 4,000 containers during her port stay. PTP serves as Maersk Line’s Southeast Asia Transhipment Hub.

The maiden voyage of Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller to PTP was commemorated at a special event held today attended by Denmark’s Ambassador to Malaysia H.E. Nicolai Ruge, PTP CEO Glen Hilton, Maersk CEO (Asia Pacific) Thomas Riber Knudsen, Johor Port Authority’s General Manager Muhammad Razif Ahmad, and Maersk Line’s key Customers.

The Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller is the latest generation container vessel known as the “Triple-E”. The vessel has three main design principles – Economy of scale, Energy efficient and Environmentally improved. The Triple-E has a capacity of 18,000 TEU containers and is 400 meter long and 59 meters wide. PTP continues to invest in infrastructure, equipment and systems to operate such mega-vessels efficiently.

Glen Hilton, Chief Executive Officer of Port of Tanjung Pelepas said, “PTP is proud to welcome the Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller today. The choice of PTP as a port of call for the world’s largest container vessel is a testament to shipping lines confidence in our efficiency and capability in handling mega vessels”.

Bjarne Foldager, Maersk Line’s Country Manager for Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei also stated “Over the past 12 years of having calls at the Port of Tanjung Pelepas, we have developed a strong business partnership with the port. Today, we are excited to witness the maiden call of our new Triple E vessel, as it makes its final port call in Asia before it makes it way to Europe”.
