PORTS in northern China's Hebei province posted a 56.5 per cent year-on-year increase in container volume to one million TEU as of October 10, setting a record high, reports Xinhua.

Huanghua port, one of the three major ports in the province, recorded a surge of 207 per cent increase year-on-year to 175,000 TEU, which was the fastest-growing one among the three ports. Tangshan port lifted 530,000 TEU, up 78.5 per cent. Qinhuangdao port's throughput grew 6.9 per cent to 296,000 TEU.

A total of 19 domestic trade shipping services have been newly added in the province this year, which bring its shipping lines up to 51 with access to more than 50 ports at home and abroad.

The provincial container handling capacity is expected to hit two million TEU by year end and the box throughput 1.3 million TEU.
