Beibu Gulf port of Qinzhou 8-month box volume up 20pc to 354,000 TEU

2013-10-29

QINZHOU, a port in southwestern China's Guangxi Autonomous Region, has posted a 20 per cent year-on-year increase in container volume to 354,000 TEU in the first eight months of 2013, reports Xinhua.

The port's total container throughput is expected to hit 500,000 TEU by the end of the year.

The robust growth was said to be the result of the rapid increase in Qinzhou's exports boosted by the launch of three direct shipping services to Singapore, Bangkok and Kaohsiung, which brings its total domestic and foreign container shipping services to 17.

Qinzhou has originally been offering 10 domestic container shipping services and four foreign loops, covering all major sea ports in China. Also, the Qinzhou port has become the largest domestic trade container transshipment port among all ports on the Beibu Gulf.
