Zhangjiagang port 10-month container throughput increases 14.4pc

EASTERN China's port of Zhangjiagang handled 1.38 million TEU from January to October, 14.4 per cent more than in the same period in 2012, according to Xinhua's report.

In this period, the port's throughput tonnage amounted to 215 million tonnes, up 5.56 per cent. Foreign trade cargo tonnage increased 2.6 per cent to 43.14 million tonnes.

From January to October, the port handled 14,380 batches of dangerous goods, weighing 6.92 million tonnes.

The Port of Zhangjiagang has been upgrading its facilities this year to enhance the city's port-based economy, and has planned to build 35 new berths. Sixteen of them has been completed and the rest will be finished in the early half of year.
