Shandong's Weifang port box volume surpasses annual target by 166pc

THE northern Port of Weifang in the middle of Shandong peninsula moved a total of 50,061 TEU at the end of November this year, surpassing its annual target by 166 per cent, reports Xinhua.

The port's full-year container throughput is expected to hit 55,000 TEU by the end of 2013 with the operation of three terminals of 20,000 tonnes.

Thus far, the central port area in the port has launched shipping services such as Weifang-Tangshan-Jinzhou, Weifang-Panjin-Zhapu, Weifang-Yingkou and Weifang-Dalian line.

The port still plans to open domestic north-south trunk container routes including Weifang-Quanzhou-Fuzhou, Weifang-Zhapu and Weifang-Nansha trade lane.

In addition, it also plans to inaugurate international shipping lines to South Korea, Japan and Malaysia.
