China delivered first ultra large boxship

2014-01-13

The 10,000 teu ultra large containership, "CSCL SPRING", researched, developed and designed by China itself, turned out to have been successfully delivered on January 8.

The delivery of this boxship is considered to be a monumental record as the third country following Korea and Japan in development, design and newbuilding of ultra large containership.

Awarded at Dalian Shipbuilding Industry (DSIC) of China by compatriot China Shipping (Group) Company, the next-generation ultra large containership has 335m and 48.6m of length and breadth with 27.2m of height and 15m of structure draft.

Meanwhile, DSIC has set new records of China continuously as it turned its eyes to ultra large boxship sector and started research, development and construction with breaking up a technical monopoly of other advanced countries. The Chinese yard is pushing ahead with technology innovation and product development in line with depressed market condition seen in recent shipbuilding industry.

Particularly, the Chinese builder is said to have already developed designs of 14,000 teu, 16,000 teu and 18,000 teu containerships.
