Shanghai container volumes rise 2.8% in July

China’s Shanghai port has handled slightly higher container throughput in July both year-on-year and month-on-month, according to figures released from Shanghai International Port (Group) Co (SIPG).

Shanghai moved 3.06m teu of boxes in July, up 2.8% from 2.98m teu handled in July 2013, data from SIPG showed.

On a month-on-month comparison, July volumes inched up 0.1% compared to volumes recorded in June.

In the first seven months of this year, the world’s busiest container port recorded total throughput of 20.33m teu, an increase of 5.3% over 19.31m teu registered in the same period of 2013.
