Chinese shipbuilders are looking for opportunities to win Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) carrier newbuildings on the back of China’s LNG import projects.
According to TradeWinds, Chinese state-owned energy company Sinopec is likely to award around four newbuildings in total including two LNG carriers which will transport LNG from 'Australia Pacific(AP) LNG' project.
Industry players said that Dalian Shipbuilding Industry (DSIC), particularly, is expected to score the two vessels, which will be its first LNG carriers. DSIC has eagerly tried to enter LNG sector for long time and is forecast to construct the Membrane-type LNG carrier.
Meanwhile, Sinopec affiliated China International Unit Petroleum & Chemicals (Unipec) is said to be pushing ahead with this latest LNG carrier newbuilding project.
