China eager to be ocean leader

It turned out that a construction project for ocean lipid research ship, which is carried out by the Chinese government, has been progressed favorably.

A design contract ceremony for the vessel was proceeded in Beijing, China on September 29. On the ceremony, Wang Xuelong, Deputy Director General of China Geological Survey (CGS), made a speech while Zhu Yingfu of Chinese Academy of Engineering was attended.

Mr. Wang said through his speech, "China will concentrate on development of marine economy, improvement of marineresources development ability, protection of offshore ecological environment, and national marine interests protection," and, "Oceanic geological survey work is a basement for fulfilling China's ambition 'offshore powerhouse' and fabrication of related equipment is the core for the work."

On the ceremony, on behalf of CGS, Mr. Wang signed design contracts for ocean lipid research ship with GuangZhou Marine Geological Survey (GMGS), the Qingdao government, 701 Institute of China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC), and 708 Design Institution of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC).
