Jiangsu Hantong Ship Heavy Industry signed a shipbuilding contract with CIMC ENRIC SJZ GAS on 26th October, 2014, for construction of the world’s first CNG carrier.

The vessel, which is powered by natural gas, is due for delivery in May 2016. The carrier’s price tag stands at approximately USD 200 million. When delivered, she will operate for the Indonesian state-owned power company Perusahaan Listrik Negara, and will be used to ship natural gas from Indonesian gas fields to the islands of Indonesia.

It will be designed and constructed under the classification society American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and PT. Biro Klasifikasi Indonesia (Persero)(BKI).
