World Shipping Council selected global top ten ports according to data up to the end of 2013. Shanghai port has replaced Singapore port becoming the first largest port around the world.
As the first largest port in the world, the throughput of Shanghai port reached 33.62 million TEU together with 31.74 million TEU in 2011 and 32.53 million TEU in 2012.
The container throughput of Singapore port, although replacing by Shanghai port, remains strong. The throughput in 2013 was 32.63 TEU together with 29.94million TEU in 2011 and 31.65million TEU in 2012. Shanghai port has surpassed Singapore port for three years.
In top 10 ports, the mainland of China has occupied 7, accounting for 70%. While as the world's largest economy, U.S. did not make the list.
