Taiwan Strait Containerized Freight Index (TWFI), co-developed by the Shanghai Shipping Exchange (SSE) and Xiamen Shipping Exchange (XSE)was officially launched in Shanghai last week.

TWFI includes one composite index, two component indexs (export index and import index)and freight rate indexs on six different shipping routes between mainland China and Taiwan.

TWFI will post the index every Wednesday afternoon and is based on the rate on January 22, which is set as 1,000 points.

TWFI is expected to reflect the supply and demand of cross-strait container shipping, and facilitate trade between the mainland and Taiwan.

The index started its trial run in April this year.
