Bunkering tanker takes on water in Scotland collision

2015-09-02

Bunkering vessel Erin Wood has been towed into harbour after colliding with 4155dwt Cyprus-flagged general cargo ship Daroja two miles off Peterhead, Scotland.

Managed by Germany’s H&H Bereederung, the collision between Daroja and the 24m Erin Wood is still under investigation, but early reports suggest the accident came as a result of a sudden course-correction by the latter vessel.

Erin Wood was holed and took on water and a list following the incident, but was safely towed into harbour by nearby trawler Ocean Endeavour. No crew were injured in the incident.

A statement by the UK coastguard read: "Aberdeen Coastguard requested the launch of Peterhead all-weather lifeboat and other vessels offered assistance. The Erin Wood was taken under tow by a fishing vessel into Peterhead and the cargo vessel has also gone to Peterhead. The Maritime and Coastguard Agency will be attending both vessels and an investigation is underway."
