Former Senior officials sue Jiangzhou Union Shipbuilding over salary default

Two former senior officials of Jiangzhou Union Shipbuilding, a subsidiary yard of Hong Kong-listed China Ocean Shipbuilding Industry, have filed a lawsuit at a local court against the yard over salary payment disputes.

Song Chunlin, former chief engineer of Jiangzhou Union Shipbuilding, and Lu Hengwu, former deputy party sectary of the yard, claimed that the yard has owed about 13 months of salaries in total to them between 2011 and 2015.

Song and Lu were dismissed by the shipyard in April this year. Lu had worked over 30 years at the yard.

Jiangzhou Union Shipbuilding, it was reported in 2014, hadn’t paid employees for almost a year.

Wang Sanlong, general manager of Jiangzhou Union Shipbuilding, admitted that the shipyard had some salary arrears, as the shipyard was facing financial difficulties.

In January this year, the local labour supervision authority ordered the shipyard to solve the salary arrear issues, however, the shipyard hasn’t executed the order.
