Tianjin hazardous chemical firms relocate

Authorities in the port city of Tianjin are moving hazardous chemical firms to an industrial zone a long way away from where the huge explosions that rocked the port area in August. The explosions, which were seen from space and killed more than 160 people, occurred at a warehouse holding chemicals in the Binhai New Area.

Firms handling dangerous chemicals will be relocated to the Nangang Industrial Zone about 30 km from the blast site and at least 10 km from the nearest residential area, Chinese newswite Xinhua reported.

Similar measures at other Chinese ports are likely to be rolled out.
