Enterprise Products Partners signs new export contract for ethane terminal in Texas

Houston-based gas and crude oil pipeline company Enterprise Products Partners announced on Monday that it has signed an additional long-term contract to export ethane from its new terminal, currently being built at Morgan’s Point in Texas.

The deal, with an unidentified company, means Enterprise has contracted for 90% of the terminal’s anticipated capacity of 200,000 barrels per day of ethane.

The facility on the shores of Galveston Bay at the inlet to the Houston Ship Channel, is expected to be ready and running by the third quarter of next year when it should be able to load fully refrigerated ethane at rates up to 10,000 bbls/hr.

Enterprise will supply the ethane to Morgan’s Point by pipe from its natural gas liquids fractionation and storage complex in Mont Belvieu, Texas.

Ethane is in demand worldwide as a raw material for the petrochemical industry.
