The Baltic Dry Index (BDI) fell below 400 points for the first time on Wednesday with capesizes leading the drop.

Continuing its drastically poor performance this year the BDI fell eight points on Wednesday to 394 points, dipping below 400 for the first time ever.

Capesizes were as in previous days the biggest loser with the Baltic Capesize Index (BCI) down 21 points at 245 points.

On the demand side there was bleak news and figures released Chinese Customs showed coal imports into China fell 30% in 2015 to 204.1m tonnes compared to 291.2m tonnes in 2014.
