Fugro is deploying its new Brazil-built inspection, repair and maintenance (IRM) vessel Fugro Aquarius on contract to Petrobras.

Designed by Damen shipyards group for the Brazilian market, the DP2 remotely operated vehicle (ROV) support vessel is claimed to be the most advanced vessel of its type built in Brazil, and is capable of operating in water depths of 3,000m, with accommodation for 60 personnel.

Specialist equipment on board includes an active heave compensated winch system capable of lifting 10 tonnes, and two 150 bhp work-class ROVs, built by Fugro.

“This contract reinforces Fugro’s market leadership in the IRM segment in Brazil and underlines the success of Fugro’s long-term relationship with Petrobras,” said Mathilde Scholtes, Fugro Brasil md.
