Wärtsilä has inked an engine monitoring agreement with Bonny Gas Transport (BGT), a subsidiary of Nigeria LNG, for six LNG carrier newbuildings.

The contract is the first of its kind for Wärtsilä in Africa, and covers the six LNG carriers each equipped with five Wärtsilä 50DF engines. The agreement is also the first to apply Wärtsilä's Data Acquisition System, part of Wärtsilä's Genius services, to optimise engine performance by providing real-time access and analysis of data with one system.

Wärtsilä will use Condition Based Monitoring (CBM) to remotely observe and predict the service needs of the engines on board the six LNG carriers, and deliver spare parts and maintenance.
