Eighth VLCC Newbuild Joins Gener8

Crude oil shipping company Gener8 Maritime has taken delivery of the “ECO” VLCC the Gener8 Success from Chinese shipbuilder Shanghai Waigoqiao Shipbuilding Co.

The Gener8 Success represents the eighth of 21 “ECO” VLCCs expected to be delivered into Gener8 Maritime’s fleet.

Upon delivery, the Gener8 Success entered Navig8’s VL8 Pool.

This is the fourth newbuild to be delivered to the company this year and follows that of the Gener8 Hera in February and the Gener8 Apollo and the Gener8 Supreme in January from Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering and Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co.

The next in line for delivery is Gener8 Nautilus which is receiving final touches at Hyundai Heavy Industries in Korea before it gets delivered in April.

Gener8 Maritime has the biggest number of vessels joining the world fleet in 2016 that feature eco engines, according to the data provided by VesselsValue, worth a total of USD 1.5 billion.

As of March 28, 2016, Gener8 Maritime has a fleet of 45 wholly-owned vessels on a fully-delivered basis. Gener8’s fleet is comprised of 13 VLCC newbuildings and 32 vessels on the water, the company’s data shows.
