Port of Singapore handles lower container volumes in March

The port of Singapore has moved lower container volumes in March compared to the same period of last year, according to preliminary estimates from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

In March this year, Singapore handed 2.52m teu of throughput, down 8% from 2.74m teu seen in March 2015, MPA figures showed.

Last month’s volumes, however, rose by 5.9% compared to 2.39m teu recorded in February this year.

From January to March 2016, Singapore port registered a total throughput of 7.39m teu, down 9.1% compared to 8.13m teu in the previous corresponding period.
