Singapore box volumes continue to fall in April

Singapore port has handled lower container volumes in April compared to the year-ago period, according to preliminary estimates by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

In April this year, Singapore port registered box throughput of 2.53m teu, a decline of 3.8% from 2.63m teu in April 2015, figures from MPA showed.

Last month’s volumes were stable compared to 2.52m teu handled in March 2016.

In the first four months of 2016, Singapore port moved a total throughput of 9.92m teu, a fall of 7.8% from 10.76m teu seen in the previous corresponding period.
