Holland America Line, part of Carnival Corporation, has welcomed a new cruise ship to its fleet, ms Koningsdam, with a dedication ceremony held May 20 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

Being the first of a new Pinnacle class of ships, Koningsdam is now the 14th and the brand’s largest ship.

With its gross tonnage of 99,800 tons and a length of almost 300 meters, the cruise ship can accommodate 2,650 passengers.

The ceremony was part of a 13-day christening cruise that departed Civitavecchia in Italy on May 9. Following the christening voyage, Koningsdam will homeport in Amsterdam during the summer and in Fort Lauderdale in winter.

The Koningsdam was christened by Her Majesty Queen Máxima of the Netherlands.

“It’s an honor to have Her Majesty Queen Máxima as the godmother to Koningsdam, and May 20 was a truly special day with Her Majesty performing the ceremonial traditions of blessing the bell and the champagne bottle break to officially welcome our newest ship to the fleet,” Orlando Ashford, president of Holland America Line said.

Built by Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri, the Koningsdam wasdelivered on March 31.

Carnival Corporation now has three of its four new 2016 ship deliveries in service – Koningsdam, AIDA Cruises’ AIDAprima and Carnival Cruise Line’s Vista. The fourth ship, the Seabourn Encore, is scheduled for delivery in December.
