Container throughput at Singapore port has inched up in May compared to the year-ago period, according to preliminary estimates by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

In May, Singapore port handled container volumes of 2.67m teu, a slight increase of 1.9% from 2.62m teu in May 2015, MPA figures showed.

Last month’s volumes rose by 5.5% from 2.53m teu moved in April this year.

In the first five months of 2016, Singapore port moved a total throughput of 12.59m teu, a drop of 5.9% from 13.38m teu recorded in the previous corresponding period.
