Greece Jobless Rate Remains Stable In May

Greece’s unemployment rate held steady in May, after easing in the previous three months, data from the Hellenic Statistical Authority showed Thursday.

The seasonally adjusted jobless rate came in at 23.5 percent in May, the same rate as in April, which was revised up from 23.3 percent reported initially.

In the corresponding month last year, the unemployment rate was 25.0 percent.

The number of unemployed people decreased by 2,555 from April and by 74,843 from May 2015.

At the same time, the number of employed increased by 59,723 persons compared with the same month of 2015, while fell by 15,885 persons compared with April.

The youth unemployment rate, which applies to the 15 to 24 age group, rose slightly to 50.3 percent in May from 50.0 percent a year earlier.
